Basic Needs: Each year an estimated 15 million children die of hunger. World Children's Fund is on the front line of the fight against hunger. In the Horn of Africa, hunger is stalking millions of people. More than a third of all children in the region are now facing emergency levels of malnutrition. We fight hunger worldwide with both emergency food aid, on-going feeding programmes in slums and schools that serve impoverished children. In addition to food relief, WCF also meets basic needs by providing suffering children with clothing, shelter, school supplies & medical relief.
Disaster, refugees and humanitarian relief: We help in times of war and natural disasters and famine. When disaster strikes around the world, we respond with emergency food, water, shelter and medical relief. World Children's Fund has rushed supplies to families and children around the globe who are victims of Tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, wars and civil conflict.
Children's Services: We believe every child should have a place to call home. World Children's Fund builds and maintains homes and orphanages throughout the world. We also believe in every child's right to literacy and education. Many of the projects and programmes we support provide access to schooling and pay fees that are cost prohibitive for poor children living in slums or other impoverished conditions.
Community Development: Issues such as a lack of clean water and basic sanitation contribute to child deaths. More than 4,000 children die every day from severe diarrhoea, which is caused by poor sanitation and hygiene. Girls in developing countries often spend most of their days gathering water for their families, walking 3.5 miles on average each day. World Children's Fund provides funding for community bore holes and other clean water sources. We also participate in hygiene education and provide financial support for medical clinics & schools.
