Who we are
World Children's Fund is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to helping children worldwide who are suffering the effects of poverty, disease, natural disaster, famine, abuse, civil strife and war.
We fight hunger worldwide with both emergency food aid, and ongoing nutritional programmes. Our programmes fill the empty bellies of children who would otherwise languish without daily feeding. In addition to food relief, WCF also meets essential needs by providing suffering children with clothing, shelter, school supplies and medical care.
Through the generosity of our partners and donors, we are making a difference. Together, we are changing the lives of the world's impoverished and needy children.
We are committed to improving the quality of life for vulnerable groups, including refugees, displaced persons and children orphaned through disasters and civil strife.
EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO BE NOURISHED
More than half of the deaths of children under the age of five are linked to malnutrition. Undernourished children suffer from wasting and stunted growth. Their bodies lack the necessary vitamins and minerals and strength to fight disease. Frail children living in poverty die from opportunistic illnesses like malaria and pneumonia, both of which are treatable and preventable. World Children's Fund is on the front lines of the fight against hunger. In Africa, hunger is stalking millions of children and food insecurity is on the rise. Sub-Saharan Africa is disproportionally and chronically more undernourished than any other global region. We fight hunger worldwide and intervene in times of crisis with food aid. We support ongoing nutritional feeding programmes in villages, settlements and schools that serve hungry children. In addition to food relief, WCF also meets basic needs by providing deprived children with clothing, shelter, school supplies and medical relief.
EVERY CHILD DESERVES PROTECTION
We help in times of war and natural disasters and famine. When disaster strikes around the world, we respond with emergency food, water, shelter and medical relief. World Children's Fund has rushed supplies to families and children around the globe who are victims of Tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, wars and civil conflict.
EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO BE EDUCATED
We believe every child should have a place to call home. World Children's Fund builds and maintains homes and orphanages throughout the world. We also believe in every child's right to literacy and education. Many of the projects and programmes we support provide access to schooling and pay fees that are cost prohibitive for poor children living in settlements or other impoverished conditions.
EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO BE CARED FOR
World Children’s Fund provides clean water, sanitation, and other infrastructure improvements to vulnerable populations around the globe. Clean water is essential for life. To thrive, we all need communities with clean water sources and appropriate sanitary facilities. More than 500,000 children under the age of five die each year from severe diarrhea caused by poor sanitation and hygiene. Girls in developing countries often spend most of their days gathering water for their families, walking long distances each day to collect water. World Children's Fund provides funding for community bore holes and other clean water sources. World Children’s Fund participates in hygiene education, provides financial support for medical clinics and schools and is continually working to identify needs and develop sustainable plans to improve and save lives.
